KONA COFFEE CULTURAL FESTIVAL
Poster, app design, & merchandise – Fall 2019
The Kona Coffee Cultural Festival is recognized as the oldest and most successful food festival in Hawaii. It honors Kona’s cultural heritage, recognizing the accomplishments of Kona coffee pioneers, farmers and artisans. Because of the strong cultural ties of the festival, the new design and campaign harkens to vintage Hawaiian travel posters and Polynesian tattoo pattern designs.
The goal of this festival redesign is to attract more local visitors from the surrounding islands to come visit the Kona region for the festival. The festival needs an updated design to attract younger families and a more millennial target group. The hope is to refocus and simplify the marketing on the richness of the Kona coffee plant. In doing so, this will give the Kona region an identity, thereby attracting customers and generating talk of the region and its coffee, even outside of the festival season.
